UH students planned an exciting trip to Pompeii, Capri, and Sorrento, immersing us in Southern Italy's rich history and landscapes. We took a train to Naples, known for its historical significance and culinary delights, before visiting the ancient ruins of Pompeii. The air was cooler and crisper than in Florence, invigorating us as we prepared to explore this frozen-in-time civilization.

Our knowledgeable guide, passionate about archaeology, shared captivating stories of Pompeii's inhabitants before the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Walking through the well-preserved streets, we imagined bustling markets and vibrant homes, connecting with the lives of those who once thrived there.

The guide highlighted structures like the Forum and amphitheater.

Next, we stayed in the picturesque town of Sorrento for a delightful night, soaking in the breathtaking views of the Bay of Naples and the stunning cliffs that define the coastline. This charming town, known for its vibrant lemon groves and rich history, offered us a perfect base to explore the surrounding areas. After settling into our accommodations and enjoying a delicious meal featuring local cuisine, we took some time to wander through the narrow streets lined with quaint shops and bustling cafes, immersing ourselves in the local culture. The following day, we eagerly set out to visit the island of Capri, a destination renowned for its natural beauty. Upon arriving in Capri, we were greeted by the island's iconic landmarks, including the famous Blue Grotto and the charming village of Anacapri, where we spent hours exploring the stunning landscapes and indulging in the local delicacies.
