Rydens Study Abroad 2024

During my time abroad, I dedicated an extensive amount of my stay to exploring the enchanting city of Florence, primarily due to its rich and profound connection to Renaissance art. The vibrant art scene and historical significance of Florence were the main reasons that drew me to this study abroad program in the first place. As an aspiring artist, I have always held a deep admiration for Michelangelo, whose masterpieces have profoundly influenced my artistic journey. Experiencing his work in person was nothing short of incredible; it was a dream come true to stand before his sculptures and paintings, absorbing the intricate details and the sheer emotion they convey. One of the highlights of my visit was traveling up to Piazzale Michelangelo, a renowned viewpoint that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city. From this vantage point, I was able to take in the stunning skyline, characterized by the iconic dome of the Florence Cathedral and the winding Arno River. Inspired by the picturesque scenery, I decided to bring my watercolor set along and practice my skills, applying techniques I had learned in my art class. The colors of the sunset reflecting off the buildings created a mesmerizing palette that I eagerly captured on paper. As someone who is passionate about becoming an artist, Florence proved to be an extraordinary canvas, filled with inspiration at every turn. The city's rich history, coupled with its artistic heritage, made it an unparalleled environment for creativity and growth. I found myself immersed in the local culture, visiting galleries and museums, and engaging with fellow artists and art enthusiasts, all of which enriched my understanding and appreciation of art even further.
